Help Shape the Future of District Heating: Participate in Our Survey on Large Thermal Energy Storage
As part of Task 6.2 and Deliverable 6.3 of the TREASURE project, the Energieinstitut at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) is conducting an evaluation of the non-market benefits of large thermal energy storage (LTES) in district heating (DH) systems.
The aim of this study is to better understand how LTES contributes not only to economic viability but also to broader societal and environmental goals — such as energy resilience, system flexibility, and sustainability. By participating, DH operators can help shape future policy recommendations and research supporting the transition toward a decarbonised and more efficient heating sector across Europe.
The survey takes only about three minutes to complete and is open until 24 October 2025. Your participation will help identify key trends, barriers, and opportunities in the implementation of LTES.
All responses will be treated anonymously. Sensitive information is limited to the DH company name, which is collected solely to avoid duplicate entries and to allow for follow-up if necessary. Company names will be deleted immediately from the dataset after the survey is closed.
Your insights will help us better understand the role of large-scale energy storage in achieving a sustainable, secure, and efficient European heating system.
