TREASURE contributing to the Danish Center for Energy Storage meetings
On September 10, 2025, the Danish Center for Energy Storage (DACES) held its annual meeting in Aarhus, Denmark, bringing together approximately 80 participants from research communities, industry, and business sectors. PlanEnergi, played a prominent role in the event, demonstrating the project's significance in advancing thermal energy storage solutions across Europe.
Geoffroy Gauthier, chair of the Thermal energy storage working group, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the group's recent achievements and strategic priorities for the coming years. Central to this vision is the development of Pit Thermal Energy Storage (PTES) technology, with TREASURE positioned as a flagship project driving this innovation forward.
The presentation emphasized PTES as one of the most promising technologies for large-scale thermal energy storage deployment, essential for integrating renewable energy sources into Europe's energy infrastructure. TREASURE's comprehensive approach to developing, testing, and validating PTES systems was highlighted as a critical contribution to achieving European energy storage independence.
This September meeting follows PlanEnergi's participation in a previous DACES gathering on April 7, 2025, focused on "European energy storage independence: research & development directions," further demonstrating the sustained engagement of TREASURE partners with Denmark's energy storage research community.
About DACES
The Danish Center for Energy Storage (DACES) is a comprehensive partnership spanning the entire value chain from research and innovation to industry and export in energy storage and conversion. DaCES strengthens cooperation, knowledge sharing, and partnership development between companies and universities, ensuring coordinated efforts across key technology areas including thermal energy storage, battery technology, system integration, and Power-to-X.
As renewable energy sources like wind and solar increasingly dominate Europe's energy supply, the work of organizations like DACES and projects like TREASURE becomes essential. Energy storage solutions are critical for balancing supply and demand, managing energy fluctuations, and integrating different energy sectors including electricity, gas, and district heating to store excess energy as heating or green fuels.
The continued collaboration between TREASURE and DACES underscores the project's commitment to developing practical, scalable solutions for Europe's energy transition.
