The First IEA-ES Task 45 Webinar Now Available Online

The recording of the first IEA Energy Storage (IEA-ES) Task 45 webinar, held on 10 June 2025, is now available to watch online. The event brought together leading experts to explore the practical, regulatory, societal, and financial dimensions of implementing pit, aquifer, and borehole thermal storage systems.

Organised under the theme "Planning, Regulatory, Societal, and Financial Dimensions of Large-Scale Thermal Energy Storage Implementation," the session shared real-world experiences, simulation tools, and policy frameworks that shape LTES deployment.

Highlights from the webinar:

  • Per Alex Sørensen (PlanEnergi) presented pioneering Danish PTES case studies from Dronninglund and Høje Taastrup. His presentation also covered technical design, performance, and economic feasibility, as well as the multiple roles PTES can play

  • Michal Klauda (FENIX TNT) addressed stakeholder engagement and public perception, stressing the importance of early involvement, community support, and clear communication in LTES planning. His overview also outlined the TREASURE project’s dissemination strategy and future activities.

The webinar is part of IEA-ES Task 45 – Flexible Sector Coupling by Energy Storage, which supports knowledge sharing and collaboration across national programmes to enable a flexible, decarbonised energy future.
